This a question we have been receiving a lot of lately, but unfortunately the decision about whether to take the current version of the LEED AP Exam is up to the individual candidate.

Green Bean Chicago

I came across an interesting website today called Green Bean: Built, in-progress, and unbuilt Green Projects. There is a specific tag section call “LEED Certified” that shows off the LEED projects around Chicago. Although, we work with LEED and Energy Star, this blog is another reminder that there are a trove of green building programs out there. Check out their right side for the local Chicago flavors of green building.

RIP SGT Cory Johnson

This is Chris. One of my old soldiers from when I was an officer in the Army passed away last week. His name was SGT Cory Johnson, and although I’m sure he’ll never make any official statistic, he’s a casualty of the war as far as I’m concerned. They’re still waiting on an autopsy report, but it looks like he went out partying, came back, passed out, and never woke up. He was definitely drinking, and I’m willing to bet the autopsy will show that he had drugs in his system.

Cool In Your Code, an Emmy award winning “Infotainment” show that covers all of the cool things to do in NYC’s 200+ zip codes, found our blog and thought it was cool enough to add to their “Around the Blog” section of their website. They even did an interview with Everblue co-founder Chris Boggiano. Check it out at:

LEED Exam Pass Rates

Wed, 2009-09-23 23:33

I've read quite a bit lately about LEED exam pass rates and about the new LEED standards. The unofficial consensus seems to be that the USGBC intends to push the pass rates for the LEED exams down by making the exam harder and asking more detailed questions. The intent seems to be to maintain the integrity of the standard.

LEEDS Certification vs. LEED Certification

Wed, 2009-09-23 23:30

The first part of my title above is not a typo. Many people say LEEDS Certification when referring to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system for green buildings. Many folks search for LEEDS, LEEDS AP, or LEEDS Certification in Google. When I first started hearing this, I thought it was just a Southern California thing or maybe even just a Los Angeles or Orange County thing, but now I’m hearing people from New York and Texas say LEEDS instead of LEED.

Roofray: Determine Your Home's Solar Potential

Wed, 2009-09-23 23:24

Roofray was a really cool tool for determining your home's potential for solar energy. I entered my address and, after showing it the planes of my roof, the software calculated my home’s solar potential. Pretty neat software. This tool actually went away in 2012 and was replaced by ModSolar. ModSolar also developed a similar capability for use by solar installers.
