Home Star Energy Update, Fall Recess

Tue, 2010-10-12 15:58

As the U.S. Senate recessed until after the November elections last week, the Home Star legislation is again left unresolved. After breaking, Home Star supporters reached out to Home Star's main sponsors in the Senate to express growing concern. Senators Bingaman (NM-D), Snowe (ME-R) and Warner (VA-D) along with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid quickly stood behind HOME STAR by publicly calling for the passage of HOME STAR when Congress comes back for a "lame duck" session after the election.

As the Home Star coalition continues to push for passage, the odds of a 2010 HOME STAR bill depend largely on election results and internal Senate floor negotiations. It is important for everyone to contact their elected officials and continue to push for the passing of Home Star and to let them know that partisan politics do not delay this important piece of legislation any longer.

President Obama has also called for the passage of HOME STAR last week in a meeting of the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board (PERAB). The support from the White House continues to shore-up hope for passage this year.
