Bottled Water: Reasons Why It’s Inefficient & What You Can Do

Why should you care about bottled water?

First and most importantly, bottled water is very energy intensive. It takes lots of imported oil to make the bottle and transport it to your home, office, the gym, etc. That imported oil hurts our economy and fuels undemocratic regimes around the world. So, if you are a Patriot, and if you believe in democracy and freedom, then you should put down the bottle and switch to tap – it’s 100% American.

Secondly, there is also the obvious environmental impact (from the oil extraction to the landfill). There’s actually an entire story/video that details this journey further. Check out The Story of Bottled Water video here.

In our LEED Green Associate Exam Prep class, we’ll teach you all about sustainable materials. Our job is to help you make smart choices. Moreover, LEED is also a supporter of making smarter building and lifestyle choices.

The LEED Rating System also features a credit category called Water Efficiency. Materials and water both play a huge role in how sustainable how buildings are. They can both be resource-heavy, so it’s important that we focus on each one and do our best to be resourceful.

  1. This is excellent. I saw the whole video just days before getting a DVD of the documentary “Tapped,” which I highly recommend. Thanks for posting this!
