I arrived in Paris on a glorious Sunday that promised the coming of spring printemps in French. I made it in time for Mass at Notre Dame and then headed to le Jardin du Luxembourg to watch families and children recreating at this beautiful garden.

The Everblue LEED class was hosted by LE SOMMER ENVIRONNEMENT. As members of the L’Institut pour la Conception Environnementale du Bati, attendees were knowledgeable and well versed in BREEAM and HQE, Haute Qualité Environnementale a standard for green building in France based on the principles of sustainable development first set out at the 1992 Earth Summit. Together we learned about LEED and discussed ideas for a project in Paris.

While in Paris, we enjoyed the traditional custom of the mid-day meal dejeuner. Training was held for three hours in the morning and then continued for four hours in the afternoon until 6:30 pm. This is the typical Parisian work day and I must say it is most civilized! It was wonderful to spend some time getting to know each other on a personal level and discussing our interests and experience in green building. It was a privilege to spend two days with French design professionals learning about LEED.

Tuesday evening, February 8,
En route to L’Arc de Triomphe, I happened to walk by a star sighting of MAD MEN IN PARIS!

PARIS - Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and the hit series’ stars Christina Hendricks and John Slattery headed from Madison Avenue to Paris’ City Hall on Tuesday to see Weiner accept a prestigious honor from the French Capital’s Mayor’s office.

Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe’s cultural deputy presented Weiner with the Vermeil Medal of Honor for his contributions to culture and society during a swank ceremony and cocktail fit for 1960’s ad men at the city’s Hotel de Ville. Later Tuesday evening, Sundance screened the first episode of Mad Men followed by a chic cocktail at Paris’ elegant hotel the Royal Monceau with Weiner, Hendricks, Slattery and Rainbow Media execs.
