Solar Energy Training Courses: Live vs. Online

We’re often asked whether we offer online solar energy training courses. We do – our Entry Level Solar PV Training and Solar Design & Sales Training are both self-paced online webinars. Students gain instant access to the online materials and can log in to participate any time 24/7 for a full year.

If you're looking to learn more about solar energy and add solar skills to your resume, visit our Introduction to Solar series.

I will say, we don't offer an online solar panel installation course, though.

No, we don’t offer the solar panel installation training in an online format. Why, you may ask?

At Everblue, we strongly believe in quality education. Our training is designed to help professionals advance in their careers and/or help job-changers transition into a growing workforce with real-world technical skills.

Would you hire a contractor to install solar panels on your roof if he/she had never touched a solar panel before? No. No, you wouldn’t. As a consumer, you wouldn’t want to spend your hard-earned money on an inexperienced and unqualified person. It’s just plain dangerous.

So while we offer the “theory” classes in an online format, we firmly believe in the value that hands-on solar panel installation training has. That’s not to say that we won’t potentially offer a “blended” version of our solar PV installation course in the future, where the “theory” portion is online. But we will always offer live, in-person solar panel installation training because we want to equip our participants with those technical skills and monitor that experience in a protective environment.

With our Advanced Solar Training and Solar PV Mastery Combo programs, participants spend five days working on a real 1 kW solar panel array.

Our solar instructors are experienced solar panel installers with the NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification.

It’s beneficial for our participants to interact with this type of professional in a training environment and to get instant feedback on their installation techniques before they go out and apply for jobs. We’re happy to provide this kind of service – in fact, we prefer it.

We are not just a training factory. Everblue was founded with the purpose of educating professionals on real environmental topics and giving them the skills to go out and make a difference. We call this intense green jobs training.

As our student Rob Blake said, “It was clear that the staff cared about our success and matched our efforts in achieving it. If you want to learn, you need to interact and ask questions. EverBlue creates that environment.” Stephanie Sowers echoed those sentiments when she said that her instructor, Bobby, really cared about the participants as individuals and wanted them to succeed.

There is no substitute for hands-on training.

Sure, watching videos of others installing solar panels can be helpful. Looking at diagrams of solar arrays will help you become familiar when you encounter the real thing in person. But when you make the decision to transition your career and/or gain solar knowledge, why wouldn’t you want top-of-the-line training to set you up for success?

If you’re tempted to go the quick and easy route with online solar panel installation training, please take a moment to reflect on the questions posed here. Not to mention, if your goal is to achieve a solar certification through NABCEP, one of the requirements is hands-on experience. You don’t want to walk onto a job site as an apprentice or volunteer and look like you’ve never seen solar panels up close and in person. When you go to get your hands-on experience to qualify for the NABCEP PV Installation Professional exam, your teammates or colleagues will appreciate working alongside someone who has some real life experience working with solar panels and electrical wires.

Adding solar to your skills doesn’t have to be difficult or costly.

We’ve intentionally designed our Solar PV Mastery Combo the way we have for two distinct reasons:

1. Meet the training requirement to sit for the NABCEP PV Installation Professional exam

  • IREC Accredited curriculum
  • Includes 58 hours of education
  • 40 of those hours are approved as Advanced Training

2. Make qualifying for the NABCEP exam and gaining real-world solar skills EASY

  • One educational program to take you from beginner to technician
  • Includes self-paced online training AND live hands-on solar panel installation training
  • One-time payment of $1,899

The Solar PV Mastery Combo provides a fundamental range of knowledge regardless of whether you want to pursue NABCEP Certification. With this training, you’ll be able to start working as a solar panel installer or incorporate the knowledge into your advertising, business development, and sales strategies.
