With that visual representation of a “green job” in everyone’s heads, it’s no wonder that solar photovoltaics (PV) is so common in the news. Did you know that you could utilize solar energy in another way? It’s called solar heating, or sometimes solar thermal.

The event was well attended by homebuilders and their project teams including marketing and purchasing representatives, architects, and developers. Exhibitors included all types of building products and services, ranging from landscape designers to window manufacturers. The event was a unique opportunity for industry professionals to connect, learn, network, and share ideas. New home sales and construction starts are up this year, creating an optimistic mood at the event.

World Cup Goes Green

Preparations for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil are already underway, and the LEED certification process will play a major role in the sustainable, urban economic development plans for the month-long event. Development will include the construction and renovation of 12 stadiums, transportation, infrastructure, and lodging, as well as waste and water management to support millions of fans. All 12 of the host venues set a goal of meeting minimum LEED sustainability standards. In early 2012, 10 of the 12 venues had already applied to the USGBC for LEED status.

The exchange, which took place from May 15 to May 18, was hosted in two different New York locations: Buffalo and Long Island.
