Everblue Students Win at FL Green Awards

Everblue is excited to announce that two of our students were winners at the Sustainable South Florida Awards ceremony, which occurred on November 17. To follow-up a related blog post (Greg Hamra: Everblue's Green Visionary), we are also pleased to announce that our very own Greg Hamra, senior LEED instructor, did in fact win the Green Visionary category!

The federal government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently published the results of its annual worldwide study, which showed that greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane continue to rise in Earth’s atmosphere. Gases attributed to human activity jumped 29% since 1990. This goes to show one example where human activity has been documented and proven to reduce overall air quality.

Veterans Day 2011

Very few holidays stand out to me. It's fun seeing the kids dressed up on Halloween, or searching for the right Valentine’s Day card, but typical holidays come and pass and don't really faze me. However, when Memorial Day and Veterans Day approach, I feel overwhelmed with emotion. I appreciate the warm messages from fellow veterans, friends still serving and those I used to serve with that have moved on to careers in the civilian sector. But I wish there was a way to say thank you to those who are no longer with us. They deserve all the thanks.

ACI Conference Recap - Charlotte

 The first Home Energy Trainer Conference from Affordable Comfort, Inc (ACI) went off without a hitch. The event took place in Charlotte, NC at the Hilton Charlotte Center City Hotel. Trainers from a multitude of organizations were present, visiting the booths and participating in workshop sessions. Everblue staff members were sprinkled throughout the conference, as conference presenters, volunteers, and booth participants.

Affordable Comfort, Inc (ACI) will be hosting its annual Home Energy Trainer Conference on November 1-2 in Charlotte, NC. Everblue Training Institute will be participating as an exhibitor in the conference. Our staff has also volunteered to work at the conference, as workshop speakers and presenters. The Home Energy Trainer Conference will bring together training organizations from across the country that are looking for the latest industry trends, best practices, and networking opportunities.

Penn State Strategic Plan in Development

To show their commitment to sustainability, and to best prepare their students for the real world, Penn State University has decided to develop a five-goal strategic plan.

Although the university is only in its preliminary drafting stage, the University Sustainability Council is considering the following goals:

- Define specific sustainability competencies and credentials that will be pursued by campus individuals

- Develop academic and co-curricular programs designed to cultivate specific sustainability competencies

Solar Powers U.S. Island Territories

In an earlier blog post, Everblue employee Jamie Zelenak-Hyre recounts her experience in Hawaii, marveling at the abundance of solar power on the island. It seems this trend also extends to U.S. island territories, such as the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam. These locations are starting to utilize solar panels in an effort to cut down on their electricity expenses.
