Energy Auditor & Home Performance Business Models Webinar

Tue, 2011-06-07 22:49

On June 7th, I spoke on a “Getting Started with Home Performance Contracting” webinar Session. There were over 745 participants which is a very impressive turn out for Efficiency First, Everblue Training Institute, Saturn Resources, and the Department of Energy. During the class a few polls were conducted and the audience was as follows: One third were energy auditors, one third were looking to get started in the industry, and the remaining third were either NA or already a Home Performance Contractor.

Beyond The Solar Panels

Mon, 2011-06-06 12:06

Sure, the solar panels are an important part of the system – perhaps the most important part. However, the job doesn’t end when you slide the last solar panel into the rack. In fact, the job is just beginning. Without proper converters, wiring, fuses ,and grounding devices, the solar panels will be ineffective at best, or dangerous at worst.

Below are other components of a solar system that you must consider during installation.

What I have learned about solar training

My name is Teal, and I started an internship at Everblue Training Institute a couple weeks ago. As an intern, I am expected to do a little bit of everything. I have worked with Layla and Lesley on BPI, Steve and Bana on phones, Mike and Jamie on Moodle, Cadi on venue-booking, and finally Vince on solar. I was given many tasks but the latest one from Vince seemed to consume me the most. He asked if I would do a complete newcomer analysis on the state of solar training & certifications.

Hot Topic: Urban Thermal Planning

Thu, 2011-06-02 00:32

I just read a fascinating New York Times article about Chicago’s Urban Thermal planning efforts. What Chicago is doing is Brilliant and Amazing! This week it’s especially relevant as it’s pretty hot this week. 97 degrees here in Charlotte today, almost the record, and there’s no end in sight for this early heatwave. Unfortunately, we can probably expect years and decades of hotter, wilder weather like this.

Walk, Crawl or Run with Solar

Not necessarily “Plug and Play”
So, solar seems like a great way to supply environmentally friendly, cost-effective power, right? Right. But despite its seeming simplicity (sun’s rays = electricity), installing an effective and sustainable solar system involves more than sliding a solar panel into a rooftop rack.

My First Week at Everblue

Tue, 2011-05-31 10:43

Dogs. The thing I noticed first when I walked into Everblue’s office in Huntersville, NC was the fact that there were dogs. A big Rhodesian Ridgeback named Leo and a tiny ball of fur named Griffin. Of course there is sweet Lola and the happy (but cautious) Goldendoodle, Riley. They all mingle throughout the office, but eventually settle in by their owners. After having been properly sniffed, I began to settle in at my empty desk. Jamie and Mike gave me some reassuring words, and then it was time to get busy.
