Concerns vs. Facts

You may have heard by now that the town of Woodland, NC rejected a proposal for a solar farm following public concerns. Citizens expressed their fear and mistrust of solar energy technology, blocking Strata Solar Company to build a solar farm off Highway 258.

Strata Solar had proposed a solar farm around Woodland because the town has an electrical substation where the solar power generated by the panels could be hooked up to the electrical grid.  Read more: Why NC Town Rejected Solar Panels »

What the Paris Attacks Mean for COP21

The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) is scheduled for Nov 30-Dec 11 in Paris. The objective of the 2015 conference is to achieve, for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations, a binding and universal agreement on climate, from all nations of the world.

On Saturday, the day after the now-infamous Paris attacks, the French government vowed to forge ahead with the long-scheduled international summit.

The Associated Press (AP) recently announced an update to its AP Stylebook regarding climate change skeptics. The AP Stylebook is a standard reference guide for journalists, meant to ensure consistency in word choice, usage, and spelling in all editorial work. Highlights From Obama’s Climate Action Speech

President Obama took a bold leadership stance during his June 25th speech from Georgetown University, where he put forth his plan to combat climate change. He promised to confront the threats of climate change head-on, with plans that include cutting carbon emissions, preparing our nation to deal with unavoidable climate change impacts, and reinforcing America’s leadership role in a global transition to cleaner economies. Top 5 Nations for Renewable Investment

Last week, Ernst & Young released their report for Country attractiveness indices (CAI) for February 2013, which consisted of 40 countries on the attractiveness of their renewable energy markets, energy infrastructure and the suitability for individual technologies. In the report, E&Y claims that policy uncertainties and financial incentives remain to be a substantial factor for renewables investors in many countries.

ARRA Tax Credits for Home Owners Through 2013

Congress has updated the home owner tax credits for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for 2013.

The Results: Claim up to $500 dollars back in tax returns from installing qualified energy-efficient products (products listed at the bottom).

The Good News: Because the previous ARRA tax credits expired December 31 2011, the updated tax credit is retroactive from that date.
