I recently came across the following posting on the ARE Forum:

“This may sound crazy, but since passing the LEED exam, I have been moderately depressed. I know I should be climbing the walls with happiness, I feel spent. I cannot seem to get my engines going again. I was wondering if anyone else had ever experienced this?”

LEED is a voluntary rating system, just as the USGBC is an agency independent of the federal government. Federal initiatives, however, are underway to require LEED certification of buildings. Most regulations requiring LEED are currently at the local level.

Today is the last day of LEED v2.2, so there are 5-10,000 people taking the LEED Exam today. We’ve been watching the last-minute chatter on the ARE Forum, a resource for the learning community on the web with active users comprised of both practitioners in architecture and academics involved in research and teaching. Traffic on the forum has jumped from about 26 users at any one time to 160 last night, as people crammed for the exam.

Dear USGBC Constituents:

In recent weeks, a wave of fear and pessimism propagated by the world financial crisis has stolen the headlines, gripped the nation, and challenged our movement. In conversation after conversation, people are asking what will happen to the green building movement if our community is plunged into a recession.

LEEDS Certification vs. LEED Certification

The first part of my title above is not a typo. Many people say LEEDS Certification when referring to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system for green buildings. Many folks search for LEEDS, LEEDS AP, or LEEDS Certification in Google. When I first started hearing this, I thought it was just a Southern California thing or maybe even just a Los Angeles or Orange County thing, but now I’m hearing people from New York and Texas say LEEDS instead of LEED.
