Community leaders have taken on the responsibility and aim to reevaluate procedures that negatively contribute to climate change.

I just read a fascinating New York Times article about Chicago’s Urban Thermal planning efforts. What Chicago is doing is Brilliant and Amazing! This week it’s especially relevant as it’s pretty hot this week. 97 degrees here in Charlotte today, almost the record, and there’s no end in sight for this early heatwave. Unfortunately, we can probably expect years and decades of hotter, wilder weather like this.

I came across this idea yesterday while looking at the green legislation currently in congress. The Location Efficient Mortgage® (LEM) is a mortgage that helps people become homeowners in location-efficient communities. These are convenient neighborhoods in which residents can walk from their homes to stores, schools, recreation, and public transportation. People who live in location-efficient communities have less need to drive, which allows them to save money and improves the environment for everyone.
