Better Buildings Initiative Sets Everblue's Sustainability Training Up for Success

With a heavy focus on renovating existing buildings to become energy efficient, Everblue staff jump on the opportunity to educate and train individuals who want to participate in this nationwide program.

President Obama announced a $4 billion commercial building initiative this week. The program will enable the federal government and private sector partners to invest in energy upgrades to buildings across the country, which will also create thousands of new construction jobs.

“This program illuminates the need for sustainability training among all sectors of business,” said Chris Boggiano, co-founder of Everblue Training Institute. “As new construction jobs surface, by way of this nationwide initiative, individuals will find themselves in a position where they need a competitive edge, so they will seek relevant training. At Everblue, we understand the importance of preparing our workforce for federal legislation like this.”

Half of the $4 billion commitment is the result of a presidential memorandum to upgrade federal buildings nationwide. The White House says the up-front costs will be completely defrayed by the long-term savings that the more energy-efficient upgrades will produce.

One of these presidential memorandums, Executive Order 13514, states that by 2015, 15 percent of each agency's federally owned or leased buildings 5,000 square feet or larger must incorporate sustainable practices. Everblue Training Institute is the only accredited green training school with curriculum pertaining to this executive order.

Everblue's Executive Order 13514 training will help students become informed about major changes in policy and will help them align their agency's sustainability strategy with the requirements made for the government. This course will cover topics that every federal organization and agency must address when producing a sustainability plan, including specific goals concerning greenhouse gas emissions, water efficiency, pollution prevention, sustainable acquisition, and waste elimination.

Individuals looking for further information about sustainability training may consider Everblue’s courses pertaining to LEED Certification, Corporate Sustainability Manager, and Commercial Building Energy Auditor. Everblue believes that the creation and education of a clean energy economy will promote energy security, increase the nation’s prosperity, and safeguard the health of the environment. Everblue has proudly trained thousands of students from individuals to small business to the largest companies and government agencies.

The other $2 billion investment pledge on the federal level comes from a partnership of 60 mayors, university presidents, business CEOs, and labor leaders. The goal is to achieve a 20 percent upgrade in energy performance by the year 2020 in 1.6 billion square feet of office space. The estimated energy cost reduction is $40 billion.
