Before I get into this blog, I would like to start with a short statement answering the question, why should you care?

First and most importantly, bottled water is very energy intensive. It takes lots of imported oil to make the bottle and transport it to your home, office, the gym, etc. That imported oil hurts our economy and fuels undemocratic regimes around the world. So, if you are a Patriot, and if you believe in democracy and freedom, then you should put down that bottled water and switch to tap - it's 100% American.  Read more: The Inefficiency of Bottled Water »

1 - Extreme Climate.  Comfort is actually the number one reason that homeowners call an energy auditor. In fact, most of what we teach about making a home more energy efficient is directly related to the heating and cooling of a home.  Read more: The Best Places to be an Energy Auditor »

Nissan and Chevy have all electric vehicles (the Volt and Leaf) slated to begin sales later this year.  Aside from many predictions of electric cars arriving decades ago, this seems like the real deal.  So what do you think a world with electric cars would look like?

The Good

#1 - No gas stations.  With electric cars, we'll have a gas (electric) station in every parking lot

LEED needs to streamline its cost structure to retain the loyalty of budget-conscious universities, municipalities and states. I don't mention the federal government because they already only build LEED certifiable buildings and don't bother paying for the plaque.

Have you seen Avatar? Great movie, right? What did you like about it? For me, it was the sense of wonder at the world of Pandora, which seemed more real than really watching in 3D. How would it be if we could link into horses and birds to ride and fly in unison with them? Wouldn't it be neat if the world lit up at night around us?  Read more: Did Avatar Motivate You to Be More Sustainable? »
