5 star review"Scott Hoover was an excellent proctor and mentor, he was able to meaningfully answer the barrage of questions that my colleague and I threw at him. He had a great attitude during testing, despite the miserably hot and humid conditions. I would definitely recommend the training through Everblue and excellent teaching from Scott Hoover. Thank You!" - Douglas L. West

ROI

Submitted by Ron S. (not verified)

Hello I have a couple questions. Based on what I can see, this is a $1500 investment plus airfare to the training sites?? On average, How long would it take to get my return on investment? What is the average charge to do a home energy audit? Thanks

ROI

Submitted by Bana@Everblue

Hi Ron and thank you for your question.

The typical home energy audit can be between $200-$400 depending on the industry rate in your area. Typically an energy auditor also offers retrofitting for the issues they find in their audit, so the majority of revenue can be made from a retrofit that can cost anywhere between $1200 to $5000 on average. To have a better idea of what you would charge, research current energy auditors in your area and see what their hourly rate is.

Thank you,
Bana

TRAINING PARTNER ENQUIRY

Submitted by Enyinda Okey (not verified)

I am a Nigerian. I am a solar energy specialist. I will like to have more training on energy audit with a view to popularizing the online training and certification in Nigeria. I hold an MA degree in Industrial Education from Ball State University, Indiana (1984). I also hold an MEd degree in Vocational Education from the University of New Brunswick, Canada (1992). Here in Nigeria, I have been training solar energy technicians and carrying out solar installations from clients since 1998. Kindly get back to me on these possibilities. Thanks E. N. Okey

BPI training in Iowa

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified)

I have gone to the Iowa page on your website, it shows you have courses in Des Moines but no schedlued courses show up. How can I find courses in Northern Iowa or Southern Minnesota. Which is better BPI, RESNET, or HERS?

BPI training in Iowa

Submitted by Bana@Everblue

Thank you for your Everblue question.

Choosing between becoming a BPI Building Analyst or a RESNET HERS Rater really depends on whether you wish to perform energy audits on existing homes or new homes. BPI auditing is typically done on older homes that homeowners wish to renovate to make more energy efficient while a RESNET energy audit targets new homes that are built to be more efficient to begin with. I have sent you more detailed information on both courses to help you with your decision.

As far as training locations, I would recommend training in Chicago, IL for BPI training as we hold these courses often in this area. Also, our RESNET HERS Rater Training program is completely online, so that's an option too!

Thank you,
Bana

No Prior Experience

Submitted by Misti (not verified)

I want to make a career change-I am in the health care field experiencing burn out. Along with being a woman I do not have any experience in the building industry.

Do I need to have experience in this field?

No Prior Experience

Submitted by Bana@Everblue

Hello Misti and thank you for your question.

Our BPI course is a fantastic way to get into the energy auditing business- even if you do not have any prior experience. We have no prerequisites for our BPI Energy Auditor course, and you will learn both in a classroom and through feild training how to perform a thorough energy audit from A to Z. You also take your written and feild exam the same week as our training, so you can begin working sooner.

Thank you,
Bana

When do I take the BPI Exams?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified)

Hi,

Are the exams that we take on Day 4, 5, and 6 the ones for getting the BPI certification or are they just practice exams to prepare for the BPI certification exam?,

If I pass the exams on Day 4,5 and 6, will I get the BPI certification or do I have to give another separate exam for getting the certification?

Thanks.

When do I take the BPI Exams?

Submitted by Bana@Everblue

Hello and thank you for your question.

Your official BPI exams are taken Day 5 and 6 of your BPI training. Upon passing these exams, you will receive a BPI certification from the Building Performance Institute themselves in the mail. Between the time you take our written and field exams with us and when you receive your certification is typically 2-6 weeks as your exams have to be processed through BPI first.

Thank you,
Bana

Hello! I'm interested in the BPI certification, I wanted to know what the difference is between the Registration for BPI Building Analyst and BPI Building Analyst plus IDL. Thank you!

Adding Envelope-Shell

Hello Ileana and thank you for your question.

If you choose to add the BPI IDL to your BPI Building Analyst course, you would be attaining two credentials in one week of training. We have emailed you additional information on this course, please call us if you have further question!

Thank you,

No Background in BPI

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified)

I do not have any background in the BPI and want to get BPI Building Analyst/IDL certified so I can do duct sealing and insulation. What is the chance I will pass the exam. I don't want to pay all this money and not pass. How many time can you take the exam after the classes? I am worried about all the terminology.

My goal is to work with someone until I am 65. After I turn 65 I want to become a consultant.

Commercial Only?

Submitted by Michelle Musson (not verified)

Hello, I looked into the BPI Training year ago and it seemed then--like it does now--to be mainly residential in nature. Is there a better fit for a commercial contractor? I have my LEED AP BD&C and have certified three LEED Projects and get asked to do whole building green audits to look for the green potential and costs associated with each upgrade. Please advise as to what would be my best avenue? I took my LEED AP course through you and it was amazing - the key to my success!
Thank you,
Michelle

608 certification for BPI AC/Heat Pump

Submitted by Gracia (not verified)

I'm studying for the 608 certification exam and I see that there are 4 exams: A-general knowledge, Type I-small appliance, Type II-high-pressure appliances, and Type III-low pressure appliances. Can you tell me which of these 4 exams we need to pass in order to take the BPI AC/Heat Pump exams?

608 certification for BPI AC/Heat Pump

Submitted by Steve@Everblue

Thank you for this important question. Yes, the 608 certification is required. In fact, you must pass the core certification, and both Type I and Type II, in order to sit for the AC/Heat Pump exams. This has been the case with BPI for some time, as the AC/Heat Pump specialty is truly an advanced certification.
