How to Qualify for the NABCEP PV Certification Exam

Certification for solar professionals is administered by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners, or NABCEP.

The NABCEP Certification Handbook contains detailed information about eligibility requirements and the application process.

Put simply, all candidates for the NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification must:

  • participate in a minimum of 58 hours of solar PV training
  • 40 of those hours must be approved as "Advanced" solar installation training
  • remaining 18 hours can come from entry-level Associate coursework IF candidate passes the NABCEP PV Associate exam
  • have an OSHA 10 hour construction industry card or equivalent
  • complete solar installations equaling at least 6 Project Credits
  • pay for and complete an application by the exam deadline

THIS PROGRAM satisfies all of the NABCEP PV Installer Training requirements. In order to earn Project Credits, we recommend that candidates volunteer with GRID Alternatives, Habitat for Humanity, or a local solar installer.
